Cavaliers Enjoy College Application Week

The door of Science teacher Mrs. Maya Schultz, the CHS Teacher of the Year, depicts her as a Cornell fan!

CHS held College Application week during the week of November 15. Many activities were planned to raise student awareness of college planning. Seniors were given opportunities to apply to colleges of their choice with the assistance of our counselors, Mrs. Elenia Daniels and Mr. Kurt Miller, and all students were encouraged to create CFNC.org accounts during their lunch periods. CFNC.org is the website of College Foundation of North Carolina. It is a free service of the State of North Carolina that helps students plan, apply, and pay for college.

“The goal for College Application Week was to promote college awareness and preparation, not only for seniors, but for all students. We wanted to inform students that it’s never too early to start planning their future,” commented counselor Mrs. Elenia Daniels. Senior Kristin Dellinger said, “I submitted my application to Chapel Hill that week. I want to go there because it’s a really good school and it has a good pre-law program and that’s what I want to go into.” Teachers were encouraged to decorate their classroom doors to represent the colleges they attended, and on Friday, everyone was invited to wear their favorite college attire. Senior Michael Roberts noted, “It was cool for the teachers to decorate their doors and explain to us all about the different colleges they went to.” College Application Week will become an annual Cavalier tradition.
