Fellowship of Christian Athletes Sponsor Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Collection
Weddington High School’s FCA is once again sponsoring the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox collection. In the past two years WHS students, faculty, and families have packed over 450 shoeboxes and donated over $1,300 for shipping. We have been told that a majority of the shoe boxes will be sent to Haiti this year, and the FCA is setting a goal of 500 shoeboxes. Every teacher received two shoeboxes for their classes to fill along with a donation envelop to collect as much money as possible to cover the $7 each shipping costs. Clubs are also being challenged to fill as many shoeboxes as possible. The French Club, sponsored by Mrs. Mead turned in 30 filled shoe boxes during National Collection Week. Shown in the picture are FCA President Jake Helms and FCA Vice President Travis Thompson along with French Club members Alexa Katon, Michael Escoto, Nikki Patel, Isabella Bartolucci, Drew Nelson, Tate Manning, and Katelyn Sullivan. Mrs. McTamney’s classes turned in the first shoe boxes on Friday, November 12, before National Collection Week started. Way to go Warriors! Let’s keep them coming in!
The FCA will be collecting shoe boxes through Thursday, December 9. Anyone can participate. Just pick up a OCC brochure/shipping envelope from the front office, find an empty shoe box at home, fill it with items for any age/gender child you wish, attach the appropriate label and bring it in with $7 for shipping inside.
Also, the FCA will be sponsoring a trip to the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center on Friday, December 10 from 5 – 10pm. Any student interested in working at the processing center should see either Ms. Ireland or Ms. Leggett for permission forms. There are a limited amount of spaces, so you must hurry.
