How do you spell whisperer?
Our schoolwide Spelling Bee was held December 2nd and what an exciting bee it was. Our fifth grader, Siret Mann, from Mrs. McKinney's class beat out our fourth grader, Jonathan Hutteman, from Mrs. Sarcona's class. The winning word was "whisperer", but the two finalists battled each other for 10 rounds, so it was a hard fought match! Siret will honor our school in the countywide bee which takes place in January. If she cannot attend the competition, Jonathan will be our representative.
It took 17 rounds to win this year's spelling bee. The last three words in the competition were "grievance", "thespian", and then "whisperer". Our assistant principal, Karen Dillon, was our fearless announcer and did a phenomenal job. Our literacy facilitator, Fran Eichelberger, was the chairperson who ran the competition, though. When asked about the competition this year, Mrs. Eichelberger stated, "I was impressed by their grace and composure. When Siret Mann won the contest by correctly spelling "whisperer", Jonathan Hutteman congratulated her. We were proud of all our contestants. We wanted to extend a special congratulations to Caroline Snyder for being in third place...We wish the best to Siret and feel honored that she will be representing Antioch."
