Global Awareness class raised money for schools in Uganda
The war in Uganda has destroyed countless families and put thousands of children into the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) as child soldiers. When our class heard about this, we decided to join Invisible Children, an organization that has been collecting money through Schools for Schools for seven years.
Mrs. Strumwasser’s first period Global Awareness class participated in raising money for Lacor Secondary School in Uganda through Schools for Schools, a part of the Invisible Children organization. We began by collecting money in first period classes during the month of October, with a goal of $2,000. We also raffled off a gift basket and received a donation from a local church.
In total, our class raised over $3,000, far exceeding our goal. The money that we raised will help build new facilities in the Lacor Secondary School, as well as provide it with the proper school supplies.
As an incentive for first period classes to raise money, we offered a complimentary Chick-Fil-A breakfast to the class that raised the most money. The winning class was Mr. Pulley’s Earth Science class. They raised over $600 for the cause.
We greatly appreciate all of the donations that we received and the overwhelming support from the school. The money raised will be a huge help to the Uganda schoolchildren.
