Lady Panther basketball player Amber Weaver was named the “Union County Hoops Player of the Week” for November 29-December 3. To add to the team honors, Jade Montgomery reached a career milestone by scoring 1065 career points after a 15-point game performance over Sun Valley on Monday, December 6. The girls’ basketball team is coached by Phil Apple and the Lady Panthers are off to an outstanding start with a record of 3 – 0.

Amber’s achievements on the court during her high school career have been many. Amber is a 4-year varsity basketball player who was selected for the honor by scoring 22 points and grabbing 22 rebounds in two games last week. She has played on the varsity level since she was a freshman and has been a team captain for the past two years. Amber plays in the forward position and was named All-Conference in 2009-2010, was selected for 2010 All County – 3rd team, and was awarded the Panther Passion award for sportsmanship.   Amber’s goal is to play basketball at the college level and several colleges are currently interested. When asked of Amber’s importance to the team’s success, Coach Apple said, “Amber is an all around great athlete. She is an extension of the coach on the floor and plays a significant role each game as a team leader.”
Jade has also been a 4-year varsity player and joined the team late this season due to the playoff success of the football team, where she was the kicker. Montgomery was voted 2010 Rocky River Conference Player of the Year, was named All-Conference, and was selected to the 2010 All-County – 1st team. Montgomery plays guard for the Lady Panthers and scored 15 points against Sun Valley to obtain her 1065 career points status. When asked what her personal athletic goals are for the 2010-2011 basketball season, Montgomery said, “My goals are to win the Rocky River conference championship and to make it far in the playoffs…maybe even to the State championship game!”
Congratulations Amber and Jade on your basketball achievements!
