MP Class Learns From Pro

Professional videographer Jason Vittorio, of Vittorio Video Productions, speaks to the CHS Media Production class.

Media Production is a class that focuses on technology and producing videos. On Tuesday, December 7, 2010, established videographer Jason Vittorio came to Ms. White’s Media Production class to give the students a few pointers and lessons about video production. Jason Vittorio is a college graduate with a degree in graphic design. A self-taught videographer, Vittorio started his career by editing in his own wedding video. Many, many, weddings later, Vittorio knew he could go into the videography business.

After working as a production manager at an advertising agency, Vittorio left the manager position and took a leap of faith into videography. Without taking classes in videography, Vittorio is a self-taught man. He started his business in iMovie and gradually moved onto more professional software called Final Cut. Vittorio admits to loving photography, art and media production, so when he found a career that involved all three elements he knew this was the career for him. After being in the business for 10 years, Vittorio knows that the leap of faith he took was a wise decision.

Vittorio told the class that he is an artsy person, with a first love of photography. He showed them various video clips that he had edited. Some were videos that he turned into commercials as well as wedding footage that he had edited. The class was so astounded by all of Vittorio’s work, they were eager to ask him questions. “Where do you see your career going in the next 10 years, what would you like to do more of,” asked Drew Furr. “I would like to see more of my commercials on TV, or to create music videos,” answered Vittorio. Vittorio told the class that for the most part he is a solo cameraman, with a few exceptions. When student Derek Hoyle heard that Vittorio was a solo man he quietly raised his hand. When Vittorio called on him, Derek asked, “Can I work for you?” With a sweet smile Vittorio answered, “Maybe someday.”
