HB Spelling Bee Buzzed with Excitement
The 2010 Hemby Bridge Spelling Bee was a success and full of excitement! The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes each had a classroom spelling bee, and the winner and runner up went on to represent their class in the school spelling bee. We were very proud to have a total of 24 students representing our classes. All of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes attended the spelling bee, along with staff and family members. The spelling bee began with a practice round, and as round 1 began, we knew that we had a lot of impressive spellers on stage! We are very proud to say that every student made it through round 1 of the spelling bee! As each round went on, the words began to get more difficult. There was a lot of excitement near the end of the spelling bee and it became a real nail biter! In order to be the spelling bee winner, you have to spell a word correct, and then you have to spell a winning word correct, otherwise the round starts over. This happened several times with the round starting over, until finally it was down to Stephen Cooper and Aara Chrabaszewski. Aara correctly spelled her word, and then went on to successfully spell the winning word 'zigzaggedness'! Aara received a gold medal for her first place finish and Stephen received a silver medal for his second place finish. Aara will go on to represent HBES at the county spelling bee which will be held in January. We are very proud of Aara, Stephen and all of our spelling bee participants. Not only did they work hard to participate, but every student showed sportsmanship towards one another and had a great attitude! Well done spellers and congratulations Aara!
