Spreading Holiday Cheer
The Parkwood High School Chorus classes are spreading holiday cheer through their annual community service event. Each year they adopt at least one family from the Union County Christmas Bureau. This year they adopted a single mother and her daughter. The students provided presents, a full holiday meal, clothing and canned food for the family.
Students from Debbie Watwood’s Chorus classes donated items and some Parkwood faculty members helped out too. After wrapping the presents and packaging the food, the Choral Department traveled to Woodridge Assisted Living to sing carols for its residents and visit with them. The classes then stopped off at the Christmas Bureau to take a tour and learn about how people apply for assistance, the process used to sort donations and the large need for volunteers every year. After leaving the Christmas Bureau, the group visited their adopted family and delivered the gifts, food and clothing they collected.
Sophomore Arielle Loftis said, “I am really glad that we participated in the Christmas Bureau this year because I love helping those in need and I think it’s great that the Parkwood Choral Department is giving back to the community.†Ms. Watwood hopes to continue this community service project each year and appreciates everyone who helped make the project a success.
