Winter holidays around the world

Linus explains the meaning of the holidays to Charlie Brown, as ice skaters look on.

On December 14, BHESA hosted its annual holiday program, “What’s It All About?”, A Benton Heights Holiday. Students learned about winter holiday celebrations around the world. Every fifth grader participated in the program, whether as an actor, singer, dancer, artist, strings’ player, videographer, or publicist. Additionally, the BHESA Dance Club, a multi-grade level club, danced during the show.

The play, an adaptation of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Charles M. Schulz delighted BHESA students during the school day, as well as parents and community members in the evening.

Essential area teachers worked with fifth grade students daily during the essential area block beginning on November 16 until the day of the performance. Students chose how they participated in the program. Those who did not want to be a performer chose to work on the art, multimedia presentation, or publicity.

The result of the coordinated efforts of teachers and students resulted in an extraordinary performance! In the words of Cecilia Broecker, Speech Pathologist, “I loved the variety and flow as well as the opportunity for so many children to be involved.”
