School year off to good start

At left, Kate Stotz, a first-grade teacher at Sun Valley Elementary School, helps one of her students put his belongings into his cubby on the first day of school. These are the first students to attend Sun Valley Elementary School as it just opened its doors in August. Principal Patrice Parker said things are running smoothly, and it has been a great start to the school year. Below, students exit the buses at Sun Valley Middle School to begin the first day of school. Principal Blaire Traywick said everything was going well on this first day of classes.





Below, Aimee Riordan, a 10th-grade English teacher at Sun Valley High School goes over the classroom rules with her students on the first day of school. Principal Janice Burns said everything had gone smoothly on her first day as principal at the high school. Burns was assistant principal at Marvin Ridge High School last year and replaced Sun Valley High School principal Ken Roess who was named UCPS Employee Relations Director of Human Resources in July.
