Polar Express Was Cool!
Our Kindergarten classes celebrated their 5th Annual Polar Express Day on December 17th. The media center was transformed into a Winter Wonderland and the students dressed in their pajamas for the event. Students enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies and heard Lou Diamond Phillips read The Polar Express on the Promethean board. There was even a Polar Express train in the middle of the media center! They were each given a silver bell necklace by their teachers. Parents and administration attended the events.
The room moms made train cookies, bell necklaces, and teachers brought candy canes. Mrs. Gwinn and Mrs. Hansen, along with Ms. Millendorf, created a Polar Express train to add to the scenery. A smoke machine was added for effect. The students entered the media center with tickets and the train conductor let them enter the dining car. Music was played while the students were given train sugar cookies and hot cocoa by the parent volunteers. Then, the students moved to the "entertainment" car where Lou Diamond Phillips read them The Polar Express using the Promethean Board. He reads the story via Storybookonline.com, a website created by the Screen Actors' Guild. After the book was read, teachers gave each student a silver bell necklace. We were very appreciative of all the parents who attended the event. A special thanks to the room moms for helping make this event evolve each year. We couldn't do it without you!
