Porter Ridge Elementary students learn lesson of service

Smiling faces are indicative of the joy these second graders at Porter Ridge Elementary School felt as they prepare more than 400 sandwiches for the homeless.

Second graders at Porter Ridge Elementary School recently learned a lesson in service when they provided food for an area homeless shelter.

“Wanting to do something to help others, these students took on a project of providing food for a shelter in Charlotte,” said Penny Tomberlin, a teacher at Porter Ridge Elementary.

In one day, the students made more than 400 sandwiches. Tomberlin said students not only got a lesson on service to others, they also had fun doing it.
