Global character education - Adolescents around the world

Mr. Sams, 8th grade soical studies teacher, kicks off the 8th grade global education project with a presentation about what culture means.

The 8th grade team has developed an instructional unit that is built around meaning and relevance to our students. The purpose is for students’ to gain an understanding of what life is like for adolescents in other parts of the world, as well as to build an understanding within our student body and our faculty of the cultures of all of our students.

The student built and performed presentations are intended to bring community members in to the school to learn with the 8th grade students about cultures and countries from around the world. Students will share their perspective of adolescent life at Marvin Ridge Middle School and what can be done to make the school welcoming for all students.

The Global Character Education project at Marvin Ridge Middle School will raise self-awareness while teaching students that differences are to be tolerated but more importantly appreciated. In this global age our students’ future colleagues, competitors, and friends will have no boundaries. This project provides the tools students need now to understand culture and their role as a citizen of the world.
