Potter Shares Egyptian Experience with Cavaliers
English II students ventured into the winding alleys and streets of Khan al Khalili in December through guest speaker Ms. Hannah Potter. Ms. Potter shared with students experiences about her opportunity to study abroad in Egypt! Potter is the sister of Ms. Liz Potter, the CHS Guidance secretary. She presented her story to Ms. Hurley’s and Ms. Tigani’s English II classes and shared pictures as well. Ms. Potter discussed some of the social, political and cultural differences between Egypt and America. Sophomore Stephanie Bronchick said, “It was really cool to learn about Egypt’s culture and their way of life.†The students learned about the importance of family and spending time together, the similarities in how the teenagers dress in Egypt compared to America and, among many other things, the excitement and significance of sports, such as soccer.
Ms. Potter was a recipient of a scholarship provided through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) that allowed her the opportunity to study abroad her senior year of high school. You can see and read more about her travels at www.hannahmpotter.blogspot.com.
