GO Green Goes BIG!
On January 7, 2011, the Antioch Gators participated in the school's first-ever Go Green Night to kick off a whole week's worth of "green" activities. The Go Green Night was designed to entertain the Antioch community with fun activities and crafts. This would help build a greater awareness with the children and their parents about reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting.
The Antioch Gators were encouraged to write and sign their pledge with how they intended to Go Greener in 2011. Children participated in making bird houses and gators out of mostly recyclable materials. Coach Ski had the Exergaming system out for those who were ready to get some physical activity. The Union County Recycling Center Coordinator was available to answer questions and to distribute helpful facts. We were also collecting e-waste and paint to be recycled. Sticking to the theme of reusing, we collected coats for a coat drive. Finally, we had a Master Gardener on hand with an earthworm composting station. It proved to be a fun, yet educational evening for all. Most importantly, we raised awareness about why and how we can go greener in 2011!
