Marbles make First Graders Marvel at Balance and Motion
First Grade completed their Science Unit on "Balance and Motion". In their final lesson, students put their learned information to use by rolling marbles down a styrofoam chute.
Students used gravity as the force to make the marbles roll, and they adjusted the chutes according to what they had learned about counterweights and balance.
Applying this knowledge enabled them to make the marbles do tricks.
After trying individually, students worked in groups to make longer marble runs and bigger, better tricks.
