Jump Rope for Heart

Piper Haworth displays her jump rope skills.

February is American Heart Month.  Waxhaw Elementary students will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) Program to help raise funds for the American Heart Association.

During their weekly PE classes, our students will be involved in a variety of Cardiovascular, jumping, and movement activities that will also relate to Heart Health.  Jump Rope for Heart will officially take place the week of February 21-25, 2011.

JRFH is a valuable program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living, and community service to children. Participants also have the opportunity to earn rewards for themselves and the PE program.

Leading up to the event week, students will find sponsors and donations for the event. Students get to earn various levels of prizes based upon the amount of money they are able to collect.  Money collected for the American Heart Association will be used to fund lifesaving research and educational programs.

“Having run similar events in the past at other schools motivated me to return this event to Waxhaw Elementary. Our students should be given the opportunity to be part of a service event for the benefit of others,” said William O’Connor, PE teacher.
