National FFA Week Observed

Union County students attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in October.

Future Farmers of America (FFA) members across the county will be celebrating National FFA Week, February 21-25.  Agriculture education is tasked with developing leaders, producers, and consumers that are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain life. The greatest aspect of agriculture education is it's FFA student organization. The National FFA Organization consists of 522,000 members and 7,000 agriculture teachers. The organization is federally chartered and even housed in the Department of Education. Students and members develop leadership skills, apply classroom knowledge to real life, and compete against other members to test their abilities. Having started nearly a century ago, the FFA is the oldest and most prominent student organization in the nation. Through the week of February 21st through 25th, students will have agricultural facts incorporated into their day, cook-outs, friendly competitions, FFA spirit wear days, and cross-curricular lessons focused on agriculture.
