Meet the Teachers/Rising Freshman Preview Night
The staff at Piedmont High School has been busy preparing for an Open House event on Tuesday, March 1. With registration for the 2011-2012 school year approaching, Piedmont would like to invite all current 8th graders at Piedmont Middle School and their parents to attend a Preview Night beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Piedmont High School auditorium. Parents and students will receive information about graduation requirements, courses, clubs/activities, and a campus tour. Representatives from all curriculum areas and guidance will be available to answer questions. In addition, an Open House for current Piedmont High students to meet the teachers for the spring semester will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The Open House will be a drop-in format to accommodate the busy schedules of parents. College and university representatives will also be available in the cafeteria to answer questions.
As an 8th grade student and parent, the transition to high school can often be a stressful experience. The goal of the 8th grade Preview Night is to provide an opportunity for students to tour the campus and for parents to meet the staff and obtain answers to questions they may have about the many facets of high school. The Preview Night will begin in the auditorium at 6:00 where Principal Jonathan Bowers will discuss the graduation requirements for rising 9th graders. According to Bowers, "This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to partner with the school as we strive to meet the educational needs of our learners. The registration process is a key component as we establish the framework for each student's course of study." Representatives from various extracurricular activities will be available in the new gym lobby to encourage rising 9th graders to get involved with student life at Piedmont High School.
In addition to the 8th grade Preview Night, parents of current Piedmont students have an opportunity to meet with their child's spring semester teachers to discuss their progress and any issues of concern. Kathy Cooper, Director of Guidance, has also scheduled several college reprentatives to be present in the cafeteria to answer admissions and financial aid questions of college-bound students. College representatives include Wingate, UNCC, Kings College, Brevard, Gardner Webb, South Piedmont Community College, and the Army National Guard.
Make plans now to join the Piedmont High School staff on Tuesday, March 1 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
