PRHS Interact Receives Award

PRHS Assistant Principal Katy Richert (second from left)and Interact president Catherine Spence (third from left) are on hand to receive a reward for Interact's sponsorship of the Blood Drive. Presenting the award were Kathy Bragg, executive director of the Union County Red Cross (far left) and Sheila Crunkleton, Union County Red Cross Chapter Community Development Director (far right).

The American Red Cross presented Porter Ridge High School’s Interact Club with an award recognizing Porter Ridge as a premiere Blood Drive Sponsor of this region. This prestigious award covers an area of approximately fifteen counties, and Porter Ridge is one of only two high schools recognized. The school was ranked fifth out of ten recognized sponsors, including Chick-Fil-A, Wells Fargo, Bank of America and UNC-Charlotte.

Interact president, Catherine Space, and Interact sponsor, Katy Richert, were presented the award at the Red Cross Luncheon on February 24th at the Omni Hotel in Charlotte. Additionally, they were honored at the Union County principal’s meeting in March, as well as the Monroe Rotary meeting last week.

The two Red Cross Blood Drives, one last spring and the other earlier this fall, raised 359 pints of blood. This is the equivalent of 1,077 lives saved. Over the past few years, the Porter Ridge High School Interact Club has been honored multiple times for their successful Blood Drives and continued dedication to the American Red Cross.
