Retired Oakland Raider Mo Collins visits Parkwood Middle

Mo Collins, retired Oakland Raider


Mr. Collins was born in Charlotte, NC and attended West Charlotte High School. After graduating from West Charlotte, Collins received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida. Collins played for the Florida Gators from 1994-1997. Mr. Collins graduated in 3 ½ years with a 3.4 GPA. He entered the NFL draft in 1998 and signed on with the Oakland Raiders. 
He told students to look in the mirror each day and see what they can do better to be competitive in today's market whether you are competing for a football position, scholarship, or job opportunity.  He said that college recruiters can start looking at applicants as early as 9th grade and students need to start preparing now for their future.  He mentioned that the NFL requires at least three full years of college before someone can enter the draft.  He told students about his background and his hard work and dedication to his education. He also spoke about being the 1st round draft pick in 1998 for the Oakland Raiders.  He told the students to build their foundation in education because education is the foundation for their future.
