Jordyn Haney of FHHS named Dale Jarrett Ford Student of the Month
Forest Hills High School junior Jordyn Haney was recently named the Dale Jarrett Ford High School Student of the Month for Union County. Jordyn was nominated by science teacher Patricia Perkoski, her teacher for both AP Environmental Science and AP Biology. Perkoski said that she is “impressed with her maturity and compassion…her inexhaustible energy to help others.â€
Jordyn is an excellent student, but it is more than her academic skills that make her stand out. In the past two years, Jordyn has worked with various school-based and public-based projects to raise awareness about those who are in need. This past fall, Jordyn led a school-based effort to collect cans of food to be distributed for Thanksgiving. Through her efforts, the students at Forest Hills brought in over 1500 cans of food. Perkoski said that when she congratulated Jordyn on her accomplishment, she shrugged it off and was happy that others would not have to go without for Thanksgiving. “I know of few other students who have the drive or the willingness that Jordyn has to help others.†As her teacher, Perkoski was thrilled that Jordyn received this award. “I know that it will highlight the causes she champions,†she said.
Dale Jarrett Ford names an elementary, a middle and a high school recipient each month. Honorees receive a plaque and Barnes & Noble and Visa gift cards. This is the second time this school year that a student from Forest Hills High has been chosen as the High School Student of the Month. Jordyn Haney is the daughter of Jeff and Gloria Haney of Marshville.
