Beta Club Service Includes Highway Cleanup
The CHS Beta Club has adopted part of Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road as community service through the NC Adopt a Highway Project. Three members of the Beta Club participated in highway cleanup on March 19, 2011, along with Mrs. Maya Schultz and Ms. Sarah Keziah. The students were Haley McGavin, Cassie Skrutowski and Ashley Linnen, all freshmen.Ten bags of trash and three bags of recyclable material were collected in two hours.
Beta Club has a requirement of four hours of community service for each member each semester. Mrs. Schultz, Beta Club Advisor, said, “Often students have trouble finding volunteer opportunities on their own, or when they do go to help, volunteer turnout is overwhelming and students stand around with no task to do. I decided to generate some of my own projects for students. I chose this section of Waxhaw-Indian Trail by New Town Elementary as I thought it would be nice to take care of a road by a school in our cluster.†The Club has an obligation to do clean the highway four times a year during their four year contract with DOT.
