Global Week 2011
Customs, cuisine, and clothing from around the globe were experienced throughout the week of March 21st- March 25th to celebrate Weddington Elementary's Global Week.
The week began with performances in the gymnasium featuring the Weddington Elementary Spanish Club dancers, Korean Taekwondo demonstrators, American cloggers, Chinese dancers, dancers from India, and a Chinese violinist.
Each day, two guest speakers brought their nations to life for us, contributing to the students' understanding of other places. They described life and customs of their country wearing traditional attire as they spoke about location, climate, foods, and clothing. Personal artifacts from their country captured the students' attention.
The hallways were decked with student work reflecting the country studied by each classroom. Even Weddington's cafeteria staff got involved by offering international meal choices for the students throughout the week.
"Students were engaged and very interested," "Loved Monday's program. It included a tremendous range, but wasn't too long," and "Best global week ever!" reflect the positive comments submitted by Weddington's teachers. They are already looking forward to Global Week next year!
