Porter Ridge High School FBLA brings March "Book" Madness

Porter Ridge High School student Taylor Brown reads Ja'Ron Washington's new book to him.

On April 8th, the last school day before Intersession and Spring Break, the Future Business Leaders of America club from Porter Ridge High School visited East Elementary and donated books to all the students. FBLA calls the program "Book Madness: Help Porter Ridge Share a Legacy of Literacy", so named because the book drive they hold to collect the books takes place in March, the same time as basketball "March Madness". FBLA collected over a thousand books, donated by staff and students at Porter Ridge High School. This is the third year the club has held a book drive and their first visit to East. "We are so fortunate that these high school students chose our school to be the recipient of the books this year. There were great books for the kids to choose from and they were so excited." stated Lisa Bush, Media Specialist. Students were able to take home at least two books each. The club members also read aloud to several groups of students as time permitted. PRHS faculty club sponsors Mike Tarkka and Barbara Ellis Johnson said that FBLA plans to continue to make this an annual project.
